Simulation-driven stage design & additive manufacturing study

How do you turn a digital form into something that breathes, sways and fills a festival stage? For 6PM, we started entirely in the virtual. We sculpted the inflatables in Cinema 4D and ran them through cloth and pressure simulations to understand how air, fabric and gravity would shape each silhouette. Every iteration became a small experiment in volume, tension and movement, long before a single seam was sewn.

To bridge screen and physical space, we took the models into the workshop and tested a range of 3D printing processes, comparing how each captured detail, surface and form. These prototypes became the blueprint for the full-scale stage inflatables. They also led to a second outcome: a limited series of custom 3D-printed figures in bespoke packaging, made as gifts for our clients. What began as a visualisation process grew into a study of how digital form-finding can scale from the palm of a hand to the size of a stage.
